General Practice Services
At Apollo Bay Medical Centre our Doctors are highly trained and dedicated professionals who offer a friendly and comprehensive standard of care to all of our patients.
In addition to the normal standard of care offered, our Doctors can also provide the following services:

Immunisation
Flu Vaccination
The following groups are eligible for free government supplied seasonal influenza vaccine:
- 65 years of age and over
- Pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy
- Indigenous people from 6mths of age onwards
- Residents of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities
- Any person 6 months of age and over with a chronic condition predisposing to severe influenza illness that requires regular medical follow-up or hospitalisation such as:
- cardiac disease
- respiratory disease including severe asthmatics
- kidney disease
- diabetes
- impaired immunity
- neuromuscular disease
Please contact our receptionists to discuss as there may be some additional costs associated with the procedure, despite the vaccine itself being supplied free of charge.
Whooping Cough Vaccine Free for pregnant women.
Children’s Immunisations In Australia the childhood immunisation schedule runs from birth to 4 years of age. Click here to see the full immunisation schedule. These immunisations are bulk-billed at Apollo Bay Medical Centre.
Pneumonia Vaccine Pneumonia Vaccine is available free of charge to all patients aged over 70 years.
Meningococcal Vaccine Meningococcal Vaccine is available free of charge to all children and young adults aged under 19 years.
Chickenpox Vaccine Available free of charge to children aged 18 months.
Shingles Vaccine Free for those aged 70 – 79 years.
Hepatitis B Hepatitis B vaccines are available free of charge to 10 – 13 year olds who have not received a primary course, prisoners, men who have sex with men (also eligible for Meningicoccal/Gardasil/Hep A)
Travel Immunisations All travel medicine requires an initial consultation with your doctor to determine which vaccines are required for your particular destination.

Women’s Health
The Apollo Bay Medical Centre provides clinical services, information, counselling, referral and education to all women. Many women lead hectic lives, however it is important to find the time for regular check-ups.

Cardiology Service
Cardiology Service.
Dr Jayne Graves, Cardiac Sonographer, practices in Lorne or Colac on a regular basis.
For referrals to this service, please make an appointment to see your GP at Lorne Medical Centre on 5289 4333 or Colac Area Health on 5232 5100.
Jayne is the Director of Otway Heart. She completed her Bachelor of Science Degree with Honours in Neurophysiology at the University of Adelaide.

Health and Wellness Coaching
The Apollo Bay Medical Centre has introduced Health Coaching for people with chronic illness, such as asthma or diabetes.
Health coaching can be defined as helping patients gain knowledge, skills, tools and confidence to become active participants in their care so that they can reach their self-identified health goals.

Telehealth
The opportunity, in some instances to have a consultation with a specialist in the city without leaving Apollo Bay.
Telehealth is healthcare at a distance facilitated by technology.
Apollo Bay Medical Centre provides support for video consultations with Telehealth Enabled Specialists in other health services.
Telehealth consultations can be with the support of a GP or Practice Nurse, or independently using the technology available at the hospital. Private consultations with out GP’s attracts a non rebatable fee of $100.

Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy can help put you back in action by carefully treating your painful joints and muscles, showing you how to manage your condition, advising on how you can avoid further injuries and designing a special exercise program.
People of all ages can be helped by physiotherapy, including children, elderly people, athletes, people with neurological or cardio thoracic complaints and clients recovering from surgery.
TREATMENT MAY INCLUDE ANY OR ALL OF THESE TECHNIQUES:
- joint mobilisation or manipulation
- soft tissue massage
- stretches
- supervised exercises
- home exercise program
HOW IT WORKS
On your first visit you will be given a thorough assessment. Our physiotherapist will explain what is causing the problem and help you to choose the best options for treatment.

Occupational Therapy
The primary goal of occupational therapy is to enable people to participate in activities of everyday life. Occupational therapists achieve this by working with people and communities to enhance their ability to engage in the activities they want to or need to do. It may mean assisting to modify the activity or the environment.
Services we offer include:
- assessment and rehabilitation of skills in self-care, home duties, performance at school or work, driving and leisure.
- home or work assessment and modifications.
- prescription, and education in use of, adapted equipment, hand therapy and splinting
- teaching ways to adapt to age related changes
- assisting children with any condition or disability that affects their ability to perform everyday activities at home, school or the community.

Transfer your medical records
If would like your existing medical records transferred from another clinic, you will need to provide them with a written request. You can either send them a letter requesting your records be forwarded to Apollo Bay Medical Centre or reception can provide you a form to sign and send to the previous Doctor. Please note that some medical centres charge an administration fee for transferring records.

Patient surveys are available for you to fill out at any time. Feedback from patients is also welcomed.

Fees
We ask that fees be paid for at the time of consultation, we are a Private Billing Practise. The practice accepts major credit cards. Patients who hold a valid Health Care or Concession card maybe eligible for a discounted fee. Other people experiencing financial hardship may be bulked billed.

Failed to Attend Appointment Policy
Apollo Bay Medical Centre have a ‘No Show’ Policy.
If a patient fails to attend a booked appointment, the doctor reserves the right to charge a No Show Fee, and will take into account the inconvenience to other patients and costs incurred by the practice due to the non-attendance.
In a case of a non-attendance due to an emergency or unforeseen circumstances, this will also be take into account.
This fee is not able to be claimed through Medicare and is the responsibility of the patient to pay before being able to rebook with that Doctor.

The DNA Fee:
$50 for any non-attendance or cancellation less than 1 hour prior to your appointment time.
